DC Bucket List

This weekend my parents are coming into town.  I feel like after living here eight years it's difficult to keep coming up with new and improved things to do visit after visit.  A few weeks ago I was standing in line at Whole Foods and noticed The Washingtonian's "The Great Washington Bucket List: 50 Things Every Local Needs to Do (and how to do them without feeling like a tourist" cover story.  I'm always a sucker for checking things off lists, and with my parents visit in mind I snagged a copy.

Here is an amended version of the list:

Air Force Memorial Concert
Annapolis Day Trip
Arlington National Cemetery
Kite Festival
Boundary Stones Tour
Cherry Blossoms at the Tidal Basin

Civil War Battlegrounds
Congressional Cemetery
50 States Bike Ride
Ford's Theater
Fourth of July Fireworks on the Mall -- ehh, not sure I can be convinced on this one
Frederick Douglass House
George Washington's Mount Vernon by boat
Great Falls Rafting -- not a big rafter, but I'll add a Great Falls hike to the list
High Heel Race

House of Representatives Debate
Inaugural Ball
Kennedy Center

Meeting Eric Hutchinson at the Kennedy Center
Kingman Island Bluegrass Festival

Library of Congress Main Reading Room
Lincoln Memorial
Marine Corps Marathon
Metrobus Route 30
Monument Tour -- never done it at night
Mount Vernon Trail
Museums Around the Mall

National Arboretum
Genealogy at the National Archives and DAR Library
National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial
National Zoo

Old Rag
Embassy Tour
Peking Gourmet Inn
Political Protest

Mia Farrow

Pope-Leighey House
President Lincoln's Cottage
Rock Creek Park on Horseback
Rolling Thunder -- Does passing them on the highway headed out of town count?
Round Robin Bar
Sculpture Garden Ice Rink
Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center
Supreme Court Oral Argument
Holocaust Museum

Washington Monument

National Cathedral Tower
White House Correspondents Dinner Event
White House

So clearly I haven't done as much touristy things as it feels like.  Looks like I have some fun weekend activities lined up for the summer!
